Is it safe for cats to eat Christmas tree garland?

I have 4 cats and one of them seems to love to eat the garland off of my tree. It’s the shiny, stringy, almost tinsel like garland. The other day he even had a “garland ball”. He hacked up what I thought was a hair ball, but it was just shiny garland instead. So what I want to know is: Is it safe for him to be eating this? I honestly don’t know, and I haven’t had this happen before.

Get that stuff off of Your Tree, before your cat ends up in the emergency hospital having surgery to remove a “tangled mess” from his intestines!!

Tinsel & garlands are DEADLY for cats. You were just LUCKY that this time it made itself into a ball and could be coughed up…….If it had stayed in a “ribbon” like state, he’d be in SERIOUS trouble.

Hope you remove the garland from your tree ASAP, and your cat hasn’t eaten any ribbons, string, etc…….all of these ( so popular at Christmas ) can do SEVERE DAMAGE to a cat’s insides……Ribbons on packages, left on the floor after packages are opened, etc……all a big danger for your cat………Please take EVERY PRECAUTION to see that there is NOTHING lying around that’s more that 2 inches in length……….for the sake of your cat’s health and your wallet ( $$$$$ ).
